Smell the Rosé

The task was to create a 10-second animation, starting from sketches to the final product. Over the course of several modules, I developed the concept, illustrations, storyboard, and animation. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

Concept & Sketches: I brainstormed ideas for a 3-second video, later expanding it to 10 seconds. I created mood boards in Milanote, experimenting with various ideas before settling on a rosé wine theme.

Illustrations & Storyboard: I initially used a watercolor brush for the illustrations but switched to a basic stroke style for clarity after feedback. The storyboard was then developed to outline the animation sequence.

Animation: I started by animating a simple bouncing ball, transitioning it into a frog jumping in water. Then, I worked on a 30-second animation for “Scoops,” adding sound.

Final Animation: I used position, rotation, and opacity to animate various scenes, such as a character walking and interacting with objects. I also focused on making subtle movements, like wine in a glass, to enhance realism.

Project overview

INSPIRATION & DESIGN

Mood boards and references guided the creative process. I used a pink and light green color palette to match the rosé wine theme. The layout adhered to the required 1920x1080px dimensions, and I grouped illustrations in Illustrator for efficient animation in After Effects.

REFLECTION

This project helped me learn the complexities of motion design, especially the use of After Effects. The biggest challenge was illustration, an area I plan to practice further. Overall, I gained valuable skills and enjoyed the process of bringing the animation to life.

The project was divided into several key modules, each building on the previous one. The first step was brainstorming and sketching ideas. I explored various concepts, eventually landing on a rosé wine theme that could be expanded into a dynamic 10-second animation.

After settling on the idea, I moved on to illustrating the rough sketches and refining them, eventually creating a complete storyboard. The animation process was both challenging and rewarding as I applied techniques like position, rotation, and opacity to bring my vision to life.

In the following sections, I’ll walk you through the key phases of the project, from the initial brainstorming to the final animation, sharing insights on the tools and techniques used to make the animation process smoother and more effective.
